Where It All Began!
A short history of Horsmonden LTC!
Founded in 1968, Horsmonden Lawn Tennis Club has evolved a lot over its lifetime.
The club's growth has largely been due to the enthusiasm and support of the wonderful people that make it up, from its robust Membership to its hard-working Committee.
For its first 20 years, the club thrived with only two courts and a builder’s hut, and since then it's only improved, culminating in the opening of the club's 5th tennis court in 2008 set against the stunning backdrop of the old quarry.
In addition to this, we introduced top-quality LED floodlights in 2018, to ensure our members have the best playing conditions when light may be hard to come by.
You may have also seen our newest additions: our 4 artificial clay courts. These offer our members the opportunity to sample different surfaces, as well as the ability to play tennis on rainy or frosty days (The Great British weather has nothing on us!)
It also became important to provide even greater facilities for the various events we hold at the club, in particular Finals Day. We introduced a wonderful grassy bank for easy viewing of all the courts (perhaps not Henman Hill size, but it's pretty amazing), a large patio area for BBQs and socialising, and ample parking for easy coming and going.
As you can hopefully see, Horsmonden's journey has been underpinned by a passion for helping the community.
